Biological Reversion and Hippocratic Anatomy

چکیده
.The book under review is an eminently readable digression into subjects medical, psychic, metaphysical, poetical and other themes equally interesting. To define the scope of the work in the author's words " Biological reversion is a clinical method designed to define and rectify the consequences of chronic toxaemia." A detailed anatomical analysis is made of the skin, the subcutaneous tissues, connective tissues and muscles. The liabilities of under-nourished intoxicated tissues with faulty function and lymphatic stasis are then compared with the assets?normal tissues and normal function. Toxremia is eliminated after a search for focal sepsis and the intestinal traffic restored by the devices described in the text. Regeneration is promoted locally by mechanical accelerated nutrition and generally by clinical metabolism. The mechanical treatment restores lymphatic circulation in a predetermined order and in addition provides useful indications for directing treatment by means of biological reactions excited by the manipulations." This volume, treating of everything in general and of nothing in particular, should provide interesting reading to doctor and layman alike during leisure hours.

commended for making available a treatise which can be read only in incunabula and early printed editions. But the actual latin text could have been subjected to a little more rigorous revision, so that some of the sentences might give better sense. The list of errata by no means covers all the misreadings, particularly in the first part of the book, a surprising fact considering the people who...
متن کاملThe History of the Hippocratic Oath : Outdated , Inauthentic , and Yet Still Relevant
Nearly all medical schools incorporate some form of professional medical oath into their graduation ceremonies. The oldest and most popular of these oaths is the Hippocratic Oath, composed more than 2,400 years ago. In modern times, especially during the twentieth century, the Hippocratic Oath has had its content changed and its authorship challenged. This article discusses the history of the H...
متن کاملEffects of Martensite Reversion Parameters on the Formation of Nano/ultrafine Grain Structure in AISI 304L Stainless Steel
Formation of nano/ultrafine grain structure in AISI 304L austenitic stainless steel through the martensite reversion treatment was studied. The solution annealed specimens were cold rolled up to 95 % thickness reduction at -15°C. The cold-rolled specimens were subjected to reversion annealing treatment at the temperature range of 700-1000 °C for 10–150 min. Microstructural evolutions were analy...
متن کاملMartensite phase reversion-induced nano/ ultrafine grained AISI 304L stainless steel with magnificent mechanical properties
Austenitic stainless steels are extensively used in various applications requiring good corrosion resistance and formability. In the current study, the formation of nano/ ultrafine grained austenitic microstructure in a microalloyed AISI 304L stainless steel was investigated by the advanced thermomechanical process of reversion of strain-induced martensite. For this purpose, samples were subjec...
متن کاملHippocratic Bodily “Channels” and Oriental Parallels
The argument of this paper is based primarily on a close reading of several Hippocratic texts; parallels with Chinese traditional medicine are adduced. Study of Greek medicine is usually situated in the context of western medical history. However, it is evident that the vascular anatomy envisaged in the Hippocratic Corpus is not at all coincident with our known post-Harveian model; it here beco...
